Literature Text

When I was young I thought that I would be
A hero who wears a cape stitched of glory
But what I didn't know is that heroes are simply
People whose lives are stitched not from glory
But rather from a composed type of tragedy

I don't wear capes hand stitched from glory
And I've learned from my countless falls
And shoves and heavy weighted words of cruelty
That people cannot truly fly

I'm not a hero, and I never will be
When I look in the mirror I don't see me,
I see the reflection of a monstrous creation
That they've made of me

However I will be here for you when you need me
To help you find strength when your knees
Start to buckle and your knuckles scream red
Whether I call you a friend or an enemy
I'll always be here to help you in combat
Against the demons in your head

Yes, I will always be here
Whenever you need me
I'm the quiet monster who wants you to be free;
Who strikes matches in your dreams
To portray the strength and passion in yourself
That you've yet to see

I'm the quiet monster who longed to be a hero
But now lives only to see your smile;
The one who wrote out these words,
Hoping that you will read
I wrote this a few nights ago at around 3 in the morning. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it.
